Self Magazine Defends Airbrushing

Airbrushing is a hot topic these days! You remember how the Brits want to ban photoshop?

Now, in the wake of Kelly Clarkson's hella airbrushed Self magazine cover, the fitness mag's editor-in-chief, Lucy Danziger, has taken to her Self blog to respond to all the retouching hate that's been going on in the media as of late.

She stands by airbrushing, saying that, "we allow the postproduction process to happen, where we mark up the photograph to correct any awkward wrinkles in the blouse, flyaway hair, and other things that might detract from the beauty of the shot. This is art, creativity, and collaboration. It's not, as in a news photograph, journalism. It is, however, meant to inspire women to want to be their best. That is the point."

Inspire women or make them feel insecure????

Wouldn't inspiring them start with letting women know that they don't have to compare themselves to a standard that can't be reached?

Danziger also admits that she asked her staff to shave off a few inches from her hips in a photo of her running a marathon that ran with the editor's note in her mag. She says, "I am confident in my body, proud of what it can accomplish, but it just didn't look the way I wanted in every picture."

Hmm. We feel like honesty, encouragement, and attainable standards are more inspirational than Photoshopped images.

What do U think??
