Fashion Mags Fail To Sell!

Sad, but not unexpected, news.

Today, the Audit Bureau of Circulations released its FAS-FAX report for 2009, showing that single copy newsstand sales were down 12% overall.

Most notably, celeb and fashion magazines took a big hit. The two biggest losses were with W Magazine, which is down 21% from the same time last year, and InStyle, which is down 20.1%. Harper's Bazaar is down 13% and Vogue is down 7.8 percent. Similarly, OK! Magazine is down 20.4% and In Touch Weekly is down 17.7%. Us Weekly actually did relatively well, with only a loss of 3%.

Maggies rely more on ad sales than newsstand sales for profit, but their circulation affects the pricing of their ad space, so this does take a toll on business for the glossies.

Another sad sign of the times.

But, hey, good for us!
