Even though Burberry boasts 660,000 Facebook fans, the social networking site must not be posh enough for them.

Soon, the British fashion house will be launching it's own social networking site: artofthetrench.com

The 'trench' site will be a place for users to send in pictures of themselves wearing their fancy Burberry trenchcoats.

Inneresting concept, but kind of odd at the same time.

In hopes to gain a new clientele, chief executive Angela Ahrendts says those who visit the site "might not even be customers yet. Or they may be a customer for a bottle of fragrance or for eyewear. But these are customers who need the brand experience, who need to feel the brand. That word-of mouth spreads through their social networks and continues to be a positive conversation [about Burberry]…that is so powerful."

So seeing a stranger in an expensive trenchcoat is suppose to make someone want to run out and buy one?

Doubt it.

But at least we'll know the inspiration in case there's an increase of flashers around the world.
