The prolific and preeminent fashion photographer Irving Penn died Wednesday morning in his Manhattan home at the age of 92.

Penn, whose work has long been hailed as visionary, is survived by his son, Tom, his stepdaughter, Mia Fonssagrives Solow, his younger brother (acclaimed director) Arthur, and his nine grandchildren.

Penn's body of work spanned various publications, but he worked most notably with Vogue since 1942. His photos have also been exhibited at various museums, including The Museum of Modern Art, the J. Paul Getty Museum, The Chicago Art Institute, the Morgan Library & Museum, The Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery and National Museum of Art, among others.

His work will not soon be forgotten.

Sad.
