HOLY MOLY!
Has Taylor Momsen come out with her own line of Halloween costumes?
This year a scary (and not in the good way) new trend is emerging in the tween Halloween scene: skimpy and sexually charged costumes.
Take, for example, the "Hunny Bunny Costume," available at InFashionKids.com. More provocative than pretty-in-pink, the costume for young teens is essentially a french maid's outfit, with bunny ears, a tiny short skirt with the slip showing, an apron featuring a rabbit similar to that of the Playboy bunny, fishnet stockings, a choker, and heels.
Or, for instance, the "Fallen Angel," costume: the little girl modeling this get-up wears tons of black eye makeup, a black corsette top, torn black skirt, wide fishnet stockings, and some serious eff-me platform boots.
And the site's model for the oh-so-sexy, midriff baring, fishnet adorned "Cheerless Leader," outfit (what the heck? what happened to perky, wholesome cheerleaders?) looks like she's maybe nine years old.
What kind of parent would let their child go out in these clothes?!
And those are just two examples from one website. Another site, SpiritHalloween.com, is hawking a sexy Snow White costume, which features a teensy yellow mini-skirt, a corset top with a ruched bust (to show of the bee stings?), a choker, and some stripper platforms. Another example is the site's GoldiLocks costume, which is a napkin yellow corset dress with a small apron and sexy tulle coming out from the bottom, paired with knee socks and heels.
How could any parent buy these?? How could any retailer sell these!?
These clothes are way too suggestive for the 12-14 year old circuit. Whatever happened to being a princess or a witch? Or a ghost in a sheet? Isn't this supposed to be the holiday for kids and candy?? It's definitely not supposed to be the holiday for loss of innocence!
That said, we're not naive. We've all seen the Mean Girls scene at the Halloween party. We know that women (emphasis on women, not girls) like to sex it up on the ghoulish eve. And while we don't think 16-year-olds should dress like this either, it's definitely an entirely different issue than these tiny tweens looking like sex kittens.
What do U think? Would you let your tween daughter wear the sexy outfits to trick-or-treat?
