Is There A Breast Cancer Awareness Backlash Brewing?

As you may have noticed there has been an increase of the color pink to celebrate October's Breast Cancer Awareness month. And while there are hundreds of effort that help raise money for the cure not everyone is happy with the color pink and it's mostly cancer survivors.

Inneresting.

One cancer survivor told the Boston Globe that she'd prefer to buy her english muffins without being reminded of her illness. And Jeanne Sather, who took a more comical route posted a picture of a Prostate Cancer Ken doll she created for her "Boycott October" campaign. We guess that's her way of giving the pink middle finger to Mattel's Pink Ribbon Barbie.

On Sather's blog there's a picture of her wearing "F*** Awareness, Find A Cure", which is rather blunt, but makes you think.

Does raising awareness mean placing a pink ribbon on a product?

Or has the campaign simply become a marketing scheme for companies?

Maybe.

Anand Giridharadas of the New York Times brings up that "buycotting" or shopping for a cause, is not a substitute for someone's involvement.

While we're sure most companies involved with Breast Cancer Awareness have only good intentions, we can't help but wonder which ones are only doing it to bring in the ca$$$h.

What do U think about the over abundance of pink??? Good intentions or are there alternative motive$$$?
