Condé Nast Continues To Slash Jobs

The carnage continued over at Condé Nast last week, where the seemingly unending McKinsey-recommended "cutbacks" continued to take effect. On Monday, at least six people were fired from Glamour, another half-dozen at Wired, and people were laid off at Lucky. Others were reportedly fired from Style.com, as well.

Tuesday, at least 7 people were canned at Bon Appétit, as well as several over at Details.

Wednesday, multiple staffers were fired at in the company's market research department, Architectural Digest and Allure. Cuts reportedly included Allure executive editor and longtime Condé employee, Susan Kittenplan.

Thursday, seven staffers were let go from GQ, and Vanity Fair was hit with layoffs in the "double-digits," which, according to sources, "hit as high as senior editors and as low as fact-checkers." This reportedly includes senior editor Heather Halberstadt, who was with the title for nearly a decade.

Friday, five were let go from the fashion staple, Women's Wear Daily, the leading industry trade. Cuts included one staffer at the West Coast office, one in Georgia, one in Miami, and two in New York, though, "the good word also has it that the mothership in New York is desperately trying to protect their own in the face of cuts accross the board."

Yikes!

Whatever happened to ripping off the band-aid?

One unnerved but employed Condé worker remarked, "The whole lameness of this is that they're letting human resources drive the schedule. And they said they couldn't handle laying off everybody all at once. So every magazine has a scheduled day."

We hope the end is near - Condé's kicked nearly 300 employees to the curb in the past two weeks.

We feel so sad for those let go - now is really, really not the time to be job hunting.

Hope they give good severance!

Sad.
