It's not news that times are tough - word of the chilly economic climate has grown familiar by now. The way in which people and companies adapt, however, is often more interesting.
Swarovski is one company that is going out on a limb and trying something new in an attempt to revitalize their brand in these tough times. The iconic crystal company is launching an initiative in new territory: they're delving into the world of menswear.
The company has partnered up with various designers, (among them Tomoki Sukezane, Arashi Yanagawa and Phillip Lim) to create a collection of men's garments using Swarovski crystals and gemstones. Items include leather jackets, dinner jackets, denim shirts, moccasins, and a bevy of shirts for evening-wear. Each designer came up with their own take on a dinner jacket and dress shirt, plus various other wildcard pieces, to create one large collection.
The collection will be presented next year in a well-thought out display which will aim to show that crystal-studded mens clothing can sell in the commercial world and isn't reserved for couture alone.
We kind of want to see the presentation because we're not as convinced. For some reason we just don't think very many men will flock to crystal and gem studded garb!
What do you think? Would you or your man wear crystals and gems??
