More bad news for H&M.

On top of throwing out and damaging perfectly wearable clothes, the retailer is now caught up in an organic cotton scandal.

According to reports, the company's certified organic cotton clothing has been contaminated with genetically modified cotton from India. The 30% of the tested samples contained the tampered product. The cotton has since been traced back to India, who supplies more than half of the global supply of organic cotton.

That translates to roughly 107,000 tons of fiber that could have been contaminated.

Yikes!

Agencies like EcoCert and Peterson Control Union have already been fined as recently as April 2009.

And we're just finding out about this now!?

People are saying the fault is largely on H&M because they "were not vigilant enough" when it comes to monitoring their overseas supply chains.

The very busy spokeswoman over at H&M says they are aware of the problem, but not surprisingly they haven't said what they're doing about it.

What else will go wrong with H&M this year???
