A settlement was finally reached between retailers H&M and New York & Co after being sued by California's Center for Environmental Health.

The lawsuit called out the companies for selling accessories that contained high levels of lead, which violated California’s Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986.

While New York & Co had no comment, H&M said in a statement "We entered into this agreement to be responsible" and to "contribute toward the work CEH is doing…obviously they’re continuing to take these products off the market, which is a good thing.”

We guess being responsible doesn't apply to their so called organic cotton clothing.

As part of the agreement, the companies must limit the amount of lead paint is contained in the surface coatings as well as pay the health organization $35,000.

That's one problem down, but a handful more to go for H&M.
