Good news for animal rights activists!
On Friday, a lawsuit was settled between the US Humane Society and both Neiman Marcus and Saks over mislabeled fur.
The suit that was filed back in 2008, accused the two retailers of improperly labeling raccoon dog fur as "faux" and misidentified which animal the fur came from.
The Humane Society had already settled part of the lawsuit with UK retailer Lord & Taylor, leaving Macy's the only department store left to cave.
As a result, Sakes will now require a stricter labeling standards and must change their advertising policies as well as endorse federal legislation to end the sale of fur-trimmed garments without total sourcing disclosure.
Meanwhile Neiman Marcus' judgement is pending approval, which is expected any day now. If approved Neiman's would be required to pay $25,000 to the Humane Society and would prevent them from falsely advertising the two coats that were part of the lawsuit.
The Humane Society may see it as a victory, but we're sure PETA would rather them not use fur at all.
