McQueen Takes His Life A Day Before His Mum's Funeral

Just a day before the funeral for his mother Joyce was to take place, Alexander McQueen took his life by hanging himself in his London flat.

Those that were close to McQueen have said he wasn't coping well with the death of his mother and the 10 days following her death he had locked himself away.

A friend of the creative mind said:

"His mother died and he couldn't cope. He just went to bed for a week. His Paris show is coming up and his staff have been nagging him all week to get up and start working. But he wouldn't get out of bed, he just couldn't get up. He hasn't even been to any of his fittings for the show. He was so upset about his mother. It was her funeral tomorrow and he couldn't face it."

The McQueen family was then faced with a decision to either postpone the funeral to bury mother and son together or go ahead with their plans.

The designer's brother Michael told The London Evening Standard "It is just so raw. We are grieving. Everyone is too upset to say anything. But mum’s funeral is going ahead. It has all been arranged."

What's even more upsetting is sources have said the designer, who had lacerations to his arms, had attempted suicide on more than one occasion

So, so sad.
