Kenneth Cole To Focus More On Shoes

After years of trying to expand his fashion empire, designer Kenneth Cole is trying to return to his true passion - shoe designer!

Says Cole:

"Last year we closed down our women's shoe business because the market had become too opportunistic following the crash. So when we started it again we had to think of what would differentiate us.

I noticed that 'look good' businesses were floundering while 'feel good' businesses were prospering and realised that what we could offer women was a guarantee that ours were the most comfortable shoes a woman could ever look good in.

We focused on comfort; shoes that women could wear to work, at work and out after work - and pre-sold them before the launch. On launch day, 1600 women queued to get the shoes and we knew we had hit on something."

And it seems his daughter might soon join him in the fashion world. She's quite the humanitarian as well. Reveals Cole:

"She got these wristbands made up, in red, which say 'Help Haiti'. They cost forty cents each to make and she's been selling them at school to her friends for $5 each.

She's made thousands for the Haiti appeal. I think she might be interested in following me in to fashion, but she's only 15, we'll see."

As for Cole's shoes, his latest designs, the 925 collection, launch today in England.
