Atlanta Artist Calls Out H&M For Blatantly Copying Her Work

H&M has gone into damage control mode after Atlanta-based artist Tori LaConsay confronted them about copying her work.

The work in question is a sign slash love letter Tori painted in the East Atlanta Village in 2008. On one side the sign read "You Look Nice Today" and "I’m So Happy You’re Here" on the other in hopes it would put a smile on her neighbors' face as they drove to and from work.

Earlier this month LaConsay's friends sent her links to H&M's UK website and discovered they were selling several items with "You Look Nice Today" and a little heart next to it, just like her sign.

Tori was obviously pissed, so she emailed the fast fashion chain about not receiving a credit and/or compensation only to receive the following response:

"We employ an independent team of over 100 designers. We can assure you that this design has not been influenced by your work and that no copyright has been infringed."

Wow. Really?

When word got out about their copycatting ways, H&M went into attempted to stop the backlash by posting on their Facebook page:

"We are looking into the situation concerning the issues many of you have raised and will contact Tori LaConsay directly for further dialogue."

The next day, H&M got wind of an email Tori's friend sent to their customer service department, telling them until something is done she's taking her business elsewhere.

H&M's email response of "we are sorry to hear that you will no longer be shopping with us" prompted another Facebook status:

"We are very sorry for our customer service team´s reply, it is very unfortunate and we apologize for it. We are in contact with Tori LaConsay and will continue the dialogue with her directly."

Hopefully H&M will do the right thing.
