The Department of Toxic Substances Control reports several nail polishes found in salons that claim to be "non-toxic" do in fact contain harmful chemicals.
The dangerous substances known as the "toxic trio" includes toluene, DBP and formaldehyde have all been linked to serious illnesses such as asthma and may even cause birth defects.
Although they are potentially harmful, the use of the chemicals is legal if properly labeled, but agency officials say false labeling violates a state law that requires disclosure of harmful chemicals in products.
The agency also noted that poor ventilation in salons tested were a factor in exposing workers and customers to harmful chemicals.
Because of these workplace health issues, some cities around the nation such as San Francisco and New York are taking action by passing laws to increase safety for workers and customers at nail salons and recognizing salons who choose to use products that are free of the toxins with a “green seal” stamp of approval.
The California attorney general's office is looking into the matter and will decide if DTSC's findings will be met with legal actions which can include fines and a law requiring retailers to attach warning labels.
That's great news! Glad to hear the state is moving in the right direction!!

If anyone deserves their own nail polish, it’s the classy Queen of Brits, Elizabeth II.
British nail lacquer brand Butter has created a nail color just for Queenie in honor of her Diamond Jubilee (60 years on the throne).
The shimmery, silver-lilac color is called Lillibet Jubilee, and joins No More Waity Katy in an expanding line of royally inspired nail polishes.
We wonder what the next color will be called? Horny High Hammered Harry? Pissed Off Pippa?
Ha!
What would U call a nail polish inspired by England’s Royal Family??

Looks like Spider-Man is going to have some competition!
Orly nail care products has announced their plans to release an exclusive nail polish collection inspired by Tim Burton's Dark Shadows film starring Johnny Depp.
The collection will roll out with 4 colors, each capturing the dark undertones of the movie: a purple Mysterious Curse, a copper brown Burned Alive, a blood stained red Grave Mistake, and a pink Decades of Dysfunction.
The polishes will hit stores just in time for the film's release this May!
Out of all the colors, we're loving the spring pink Decades of Dysfunction.
Which one do U like best???

The Obama's are known to be one the most fashionable couples to ever grace the White House, so we're not surprised they've decided to release a nail polish collection.
Yes, NAIL POLISH.
The patriotic trio of lacquers were created by Richard Blanch of Le Métier De Beauté and include a delightfully deep "Red-y To Win", a soft, clean "Victory White" and a shimmering sapphire "Bo Blue". It even comes with a special collector's bag!
The collection is available at Obama's online store for $40 with all sales going toward POTUS' re-election campaign.
Sounds like a interesting way to raise funds, and no matter which way you swing politically, we think Obama nailed it.
