We really didn't see this one coming.

Hollywood royalty Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have teamed together to design a line of jewelry and fine accessories called The Protector for jewelry company Asprey.

The line was (quite clearly) inspired by the serpent; apparently when Ange was pregnant with Shiloh, someone gave her a ring in the shape of a snake and she has since considered the slithering animal a protector of their family.

Brad has created jewelry in the past with Italian jeweler Damiani, but this is Angie's first foray in to professional design, though she has commissioned pieces with Asprey for her own private collection in the past.

The collection will go on sale later this week in Asprey stores in London, New York, Beverly Huills, Tokyo, and Dubai. Prices start at $525 for a baby spoon with a serpant handle. Other items in the collection include baby gifts, such as an eggcup, toothbox, and picture frame, pendants, rings and assorted jewelry.

All net proceeds will benefit the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, co-founded by Jolie in 2006. While Brad and Angelina declined to comment about the jewelry line itself, Angie did opt to comment on the charity in a statement saying, "These are the children who most need a safe place to learn, a place to heal, a place to learn reconciliation, a place to build a better future and a place to be just children. Yet the education for these children is often forgotten. Tens of millions of children and adolescents in conflict are not in school." The charity works to fund education for child victims of war, natural disaster, and conflict.

We love the fact that the proceeds are going to charity, but we wish they had done a little more than just the serpent theme. We like the rings and whatnot, but we're not sure that snakes are the most baby-friendly motif. Also snakes have been done before! Wish there was more variety, but we do like the snakes overall.

What do you think?
