While you've probably been told numerous times to wear sunscreen when at the beach, turns out it might not be the best thing for you.

According to reports, about half of the sunscreens out today might actually increase the speed at which malignant cells can develop and then spread skin cancer.

And even more surprising, documents show that the Food and Drug Administration has known of the risk for several years without notifying the public, though the FDA continues to deny it.

Researches with the Environmental Working Group have found that only 39 of the over 500 sunscreen products tested were considered to be safe to use.

EWG's report states:

"In that yearlong study, tumors and lesions developed up to 21 percent faster in lab animals coated in a vitamin A-laced cream than animals treated with a vitamin-free cream."

With its senior vice president for research adding:

"There was enough evidence 10 years ago for FDA to caution consumers against the use of vitamin A in sunscreens."

You can check out the list of EWG's best and worst suncreens, HERE.
