Not good…according to critics.
Yeezy's show was one of if not THE most buzzed about show during Paris Fashion Week and it attracted one helluva crowd. Some of those sitting in the front row included Azzedine Alaia, Jeremy Scott, Joseph Altuzarra, Alexander Wang, Dsquared2 designers Dean and Dan Caten, the Olsen Twins and Anna Wintour.
Also seated in the front row was Lindsay Lohan, which is pretty surprising since Kanye called her Ungaro collection the "9/11 of celebrities doing fashion".
So did the show live up to the hype?
Here's what some of the critics had to say:
"Shown before a tightly edited crowd of top editors and a few celebrities, the collection turned out to be neither triumph nor train wreck."
New York Times Eric Wilson:
"Though designers in Paris are presenting collections for next spring and summer this week, Mr. West’s collection was heavy on leather, fur and coats, some pieces dripping with so much fox you couldn’t tell if they were stoles or backpacks…A sparkly cropped jacket had so many bits of flare in it that you could imagine Mr. West sampling fashion like he samples different styles of music. There was one good-looking pair of color-blocked pants in blue and coral, but it was obvious that most of the clothes suffered from a poor fit."
Cathy Horyn tweeted:
"Next season Kanye should get a tailor so clothes might fit. Models swimming in some looks. Kills the hot look, no?"
International Herald Tribune's Jessica Michault:
"The Kanye West show, in my humble opinion, is proof that everyone can love fashion but not everyone can be a fashion designer…I think that every one of the designers sitting in the front row at Kanye West must have had a deja vue moment at some point during the show."
"The clothes? Heavy might be the operative word: zippers in excelsis; suede and leather high-performance clothing; beading, crystals, and appliqué weighting jackets and tops. And more fur than you'd want on a night when the mercury hit the roof in Paris. It's kind of a cheap shot to go the trying-too-hard route with someone who is so undoubtedly passionate about what he is doing, but at the same time, it's frustrating that someone who seems to almost effortlessly realize his vaulting musical ambitions comes up short elsewhere, at least on the first attempt."
Honestly, we kinda expected he would get some scathing reviews because we don't think the industry gave him a chance.
They set the bar way too high and probably had their minds made up before even one look made it down the runway.
Maybe next time, if there is a next time.
